So where is this place? By car,
Daufuskie Island is located about a hundred miles south of Charleston
and about 40 miles north of Savannah.
The ferry schedule changes with the seasons and the traffic, and we will, of course, provide you with the particulars as needed. To get to the ferry dock - also known as the Embarkation Center - from I-95: Take Exit 8 (Highway 278) toward Hilton Head Island. Drive about 15 miles to the bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left at the first traffic light, which is Squire Pope Road. Follow Squire Pope (which turns into Seabrook Drive) until you reach the Daufuskie Island Club and Resort Embarkation Center. It's on the left.
So, you
drive to the Embarkation Center and unload your bags. Tip the bell staff.
Park your car, check in at the desk, and hop on the ferry. The ride
over to the island takes about 40 minutes. Your bags will be delivered
to the house. The practical part . . . You're going to be on an island. Depending on the time of year, there may or may not be a small assortment of staples available at the little store at the club. If you're going to eat in, you must take your food to the island with you. There is a very nice Publix grocery store on the way to the Embarkation Center. (We can give you directions). They have a decent organic/natural foods section.
And there are other options available, like a personal shopper. When it's time to go home, you call and reserve a seat on the ferry. Your bags will be picked up at the house and delivered to you at the Embarkation Center back on the mainland. By the way, the ferry ride through the Intercoastal is very comfortable. You can ride inside or out, and the cabins are heated and air conditioned. Rental Rates . . . $3000-$3700 per week. Occasionally available for nightly rental, so please feel free to contact us if you're planning something special. We would like to accomodate you.
